Radiation Therapy

Edith Sanford Breast Center provides a full range of advanced radiation therapy systems for breast cancer patients with an experienced team of radiation oncologists. Radiation treatment is used in more than half of all cancer cases. It delivers high doses of radiation to cancerous cells in a specific spot, killing or damaging them.

Some mastectomy patients also require radiation if their tumor is large or if cancer is found in the lymph nodes. Radiation can also be used to treat the symptoms of advanced breast cancer.

Radiation therapy may be administered internally or externally, and some patients are treated with both. The way the radiation therapy is given depends on the type, stage and location of tumor, as well as doctor and patient preference.
