Healthy Lifestyle, Inside Edith Sanford

Until next time, San Diego!

WR2We’re back from San Diego! Our team had an amazing time kicking off the Women’s Running Series 2014 season.

On Friday, in advance of Saturday’s race, we accompanied our national spokesperson, Mary Hart, through a whirlwind of media stops. It was exciting to hang out behind the scenes and watch her on the other end of interviews — answering questions rather than asking them, like she did during her many years hosting Entertainment Tonight. As you would imagine, she was a pro communicating how thrilled the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Foundation is to be the beneficiary of the 2014 Women’s Running Series.

Then over to the expo center, where we hosted a “candy bar,” passed out Edith Sanford cowbells and hung a tribute wall for folks to sign in honor or memory of breast cancer survivors. Thank you to everyone who stopped to chat with us and learn more about the Foundation. We’re especially grateful to all those who shared their own personal stories about breast cancer with us. Those are the kind of connections that keep the team going, and remind us how important our mission is.

On race day, the weather was picture perfect, as about 2,000 women of all ages lined up at the start of a beautiful coastal course. And there was no missing all of the TeamEdith representation. Mary led the way for the 5K, and Women’s Running editor-in-chief, Jessie Sebor, was a rock star, racing the half marathon for TeamEdith. (And finishing at a stellar second place, thank you very much!)

And guess who came by to cheer on TeamEdith? Our own Mr. Denny Sanford, who’s vision and philanthropy help found the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Foundation in honor of his mother, Edith.

What a weekend! Thank you Mary, Denny, Jessie, and all of the amazing women who came out to support TeamEdith. To view more photos of the weekend, head over to our Facebook page.

Now on to Nashville for the next race in the 2014 series! We’d love to see you there, racing for TeamEdith!
